History in the Making: Interior Marketplace in Huntsville, AL

History in the Making: Interior Marketplace in Huntsville, AL

Our marketplace began in a renovated farmhouse, originally constructed on this site, and an old country church that was moved to the property. The buildings were joined to become a complex of quaint shops, and a modern addition built in 2003 houses 23,000 square feet of extra shopping space.

The history of the quaint country farmhouse and the old country church that formed the original complex is as interesting as the concept of the marketplace itself. The white frame house is still known as "The Broad House" to area residents. Climb the stone steps to the little door of what the area "locals" call the "Old House" portion of Interior Marketplace, and you will actually be entering the old Beech Grove United Methodist Church. It was moved from its former home on 37 acres of Alabama farmland.

Perhaps it's fitting that today the old church is united to the white frame farmhouse that was once the simple home of a hardworking, self-reliant Southern family. Both buildings are still easily recognizable to those who knew them in their past. To those unfamiliar with local history, the two buildings have become home to a treasure trove of shops through which to browse and discover beautiful, unusual, and one-of-a-kind items.

Come visit, y'all!
